Three weeks of letters from David.

Estimado Family and Friends,

First off, Happy New year! I hope it was full of joy and that you all have a lot of goals to get started on!

Second, I am happy to hear that you guys finished the temple work of Nana and grandpa George, I´m sure they are very happy and grateful as well.  Like you said that is what the Gospel is all about, in fact it`s what this whole life`s about.  Learning, growing, and progressing within a family unit.  Families truly are eternal and there is power upon the earth in our day to keep us together for that long.

Colombian new years has a lot of alcohol, music, and they eat 12 grapes at midnight.  That`s just about it.  My companion and I slept through the beginning of the new year.  It`s okay we were following the rules haha.  Our neighbors next door, (also our landlord) made us a new years Eve dinner.  Which was super nice considering we don`t talk to them a whole lot.

Also I got your package this week! Thanks for the notes, clothes, wash cloths, snacks, and dental supplies.  They have all been very uplifting and put to good use.  I feel a little bad that I haven`t sent much back, but to send a package back would basically be all of the money that I have for a month.

I have been reading a lot about Christ this week. (specifically in the book Jesus the Christ)  I wanted to give you guys a food for thought this week.  Jesus never wrote anything.  Everything that he did was so incredible that even the words of his witnesses carried through centuries.  Not only that, but the power of his words are manifested in our day with the book of mormon and through Joseph Smith. 200 years after Christs death Christianity was well spread throughout the mediterranian.  In our day it still hasn`t even been 200 years since the first vision of Joseph Smith and there are over 15 million members all over the world and thousands baptized continually.  That`s because this is it.  This is the last dispensation.  He`s completing that which he has said from the beginning.  I`m just here in Colombia fulfilling this everlasting promise and profecy.

Just a little food for thought.

Hope you all have a good week, Have a wonderful week and a wonderful 2017!

Hasta próximo semana

Good week for us hope the same for you guys

We had a good week out here.  We baptized two of our investigators this last Saturday.  I don`t think I will be able to send pics this time.  It`s a holiday here so we just barely got to the internet cafe and it closes in a couple of minutes.  So I hope everything was good with the reception.  Elder Peña and I got permission to travel with some members to visit their family in a pueblo and it was a lot of fun.  Tell everyone that I said hi.  All is well I hope that you guys have a great week!

¡Buenos tardes!

Sounds like everyone is doing good so that makes me happy.  I hope everything is going well for everyone in work and school and sharing the gospel and also just downright living.

This week was a little rough not for anything inparticular just for a lot of different things.

My companion was being a little more lazy this week because he wants to be transferred.  He has had over 10 months in this area so he´s itching to get out of alfonso lopez a little bit.  So today we have transfers and he is pretty sure he`s getting transferred so this week we were walking around basically for him to say goodbye to everyone.

I was a little irritated because it wasted a lot of time we could have been working looking for new investigators and working with our progressing investigators.  On top of that the other day the half the city of barranquilla was shut off on water for a day and a half so that kind of stunk.  Also we found out we have rats in our cieling so now we`ve got to figure out about that.

Through everything though I have been happy.  I have been praying, reading my scriptures, pondering about the atonement, and being the best that I can.

I have been reading a lot in Jesus the christ I started it like a week and a half ago and I am half way done.  I was reading the other day about pleasure and happiness.  And I just thought I would share something that popped out to me when I was reading that.

It said that Satan has had plenty of experience and years of training to master his trade of deception.  To wrap up his gifts in the most alluring and attractive paper and ribbons that money can buy.  He has titled this gift: Happiness. He does it to such a great extent that when people have the gift they show it off, they are boasting for joy of the gift they have recieved, but little do others know that later when they have unwrapped the gift it is to their unknowing disappointment that the box is not filled with happiness, but the nausiating scent of pleasure.  Which as those of us who understand the difference between pleasure and happiness are aware that it doesn`t last.

There was also a note about how the fulness of our happiness isn`t experienced in life, I loved that.  Just think to yourself right now: "What`s the happiest I have ever been." and it can`t compare to the joy we will feel if we keep the commandments and return to the presence of our forever loving eternal creator.

Also the thought came to mind of words from Elder Christofferson when I was in the CCM (he didn`t come it was a broadcast) "God will always love you, but that doesn`t mean he will always trust you." When we`re in the process of life we`re not searching for pleasure or God`s love.  It`s already there.  We need to pray and repent.  So we can earn his trust and fullfill greater things in this life and the life to come.

Just a little food for though this week.

Pray for you guys a lot have a great week and good luck with everything!
