Santo Tomas-A crazy week! (pics)

4/17/2017

This week was the craziest, longest, and most difficult week of my mission by far.

It started off normal.  I am not sure if I told you guys already, but we have lunch and dinner contracts here.  So our lunch and dinner contract is a member named Liz.  She is awesome.  Her food is great and her family is super nice.  Her husband is a chubby guy named Debis. (day-bees) 20 days after they first met the missionaries they got married and were baptized in the church and they have been faithful ever since.  They have two great daughters.  One that is 12 years old and another that is 6.  And on top of that she´s 3 months pregnant.

So, her daughter went to the hospital about 4 weeks ago because her leg was hurting. My companion and I were continually asking how she was and if there was anything we could do for them.  But they kept saying that everything was fine and that she was getting better.  So my companion and I didn´t worry about it.  After a couple weeks we asked hermano Debis why his daughter hadn´t returned yet.  Apparently she was having problems with her pancreas too so she was in the hospital for a little longer.  This last week we were talking with them and they said there were problems with her blood too so she might be in the hospital for a little longer.  Once again we offered our services and they said they were fine.  Wednesday when we were at their house at about 1 in the afternoon eating our lunch they received a phone call that their daughter had passed away.  And I had the interesting experience to watch first hand as a loving mother lost her 1st born child.

It was an experience I will never ever forget.  We called our leaders and told them what happened and we talked with them and said not to worry about feeding us this week.  I actually talked with our mission president about it for like 5 minutes.  He sent us our zone leaders and they gave us a little bit of money to cook for ourselves the rest of this last week. (That was a little wild too!!) They had a funeral the next morning and my companion and I were not able to make it because we had our district meeting.  But this family has been super strong through all of it.  If you could all keep them in your prayers that would mean the world to me and to them.

Joe, good luck on the MCAT you´ll do great.

First off, Happy BRITUDAYRES a KATHRINA Y JOSÉ

Good luck with the jobs and the MCAT.  Hope that all is going well for you too and that you survive another year with joy.

This week was great, a little wild preparing for conference, but it ended up being really great.  I got to listen to conference in Spanish this time.  I understood it so that was great, but trying to take notes gave me a headache because I was taking half my notes in English and half in Spanish because Spanish was too slow, but writing it in English was translating it all in my head and it was a hot mess.

We had 13 investigators come to general conference over the weekend.  We passed by the familia fruto Sunday night and talked about the talk by Elder Ballard about setting goals.  They now have a goal to get married the 19th of April.  They are super excited.  They really want to be an eternal family so it feels great to only be an instrument in the hands of the lord right now.

Also regarding Mothers day I was just informed that when we talk on Mothers day it will be over Skype again.  This time it should work.  And we are only talking for a half hour.  But this time is whenever you guys want.  Send me a time and my companion and I can work it into our schedule.

We are just working really hard right now and everyday.  I pray for you all often, Hope that you all have a wonderful week!
